We’re hiring: Become the next Co-Director of EA Sweden

Why this role matters

In this role, you’ll have the unique opportunity to amplify the impact of hundreds of people working on the world’s most pressing problems. This role combines strategic leadership, community building, and operational excellence—and gives you the freedom to shape the future of one of the world’s most established national Effective Altruism organizations.

About EA Sweden

EA Sweden is one of the most established national Effective Altruism organizations worldwide, with paid staff since 2018. Our mission is to help individuals and organizations in Sweden achieve as much positive impact as possible—through career coaching, community programs, events, and strategic partnerships.

The team will consist of you and Ysaline, who has been EA Sweden’s Head of Strategic Development since August 2023. Together, you will work with a community of >700 members, a dozen dedicated volunteers, 12 local and cause area specific groups, a professional board of directors, and contractors supporting EA Sweden with operational matters.

Since our inception in 2016, EA Sweden has incubated multiple high-impact projects, including Ge Effektivt, Impact Academy, and The Fønix Project, and supported more than 500 individuals to find a more fulfilling and impactful career.

About the role

We are now looking for a Co-director to lead and further develop the organization, alongside Ysaline. You will share the strategic responsibility for the organization as well as the execution of many of the day-to-day activities. You’ll have the opportunity to work out of our headquarters in Stockholm and engage with both community members locally and EA organizations globally.

This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of strategy, community, and operations. You’ll co-lead the organization’s direction, represent EA Sweden nationally and globally, and ensure that our systems and community are set up for long-term success. You’ll have significant autonomy, while collaborating closely with your Co-Director, Ysaline, and a committed board and volunteer base.

Main responsibilities:

Operations & Funding (~35% of the role)

  • Oversee and execute organizational operations, budgeting, and compliance (with contractor support).
  • Lead grant applications, fundraising, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure sound governance and prepare board meetings.

Strategic Leadership & Organizational Development (~25% of the role)

  • Shape and execute EA Sweden’s long-term vision, strategy, and theory of change.
  • Set measurable goals and evaluate impact.
  • Strengthen partnerships within Sweden and across the global EA network.

Community & External Relations (~40% of the role)

  • Build and support the community through coaching, events, and outreach.
  • Represent EA Sweden in media and international conferences.
  • Foster an inclusive and motivated community culture.

Who is suited to this role?

We’re looking for a mission-driven leader who combines strategic thinking, empathy, and operational excellence. You don’t need to have done everything before, but you should be excited to learn and take charge in a dynamic environment.

We believe you’ll thrive in this role if you have:

  • A thorough understanding of effective altruism
  • Good judgment, an ability to weigh different scenarios and being comfortable in making decisions with incomplete information
  • Experience from operations management
  • An open mind, humility and genuine interest in learning new skills
  • Project management experience
  • Strong social skills

Many excellent candidates will have some – but not all – of these characteristics, and we encourage you to apply even if you do not tick all the boxes.

Fluency in Swedish is a requirement.

We are committed to building a diverse applicant pool. There is some evidence suggesting that individuals from underrepresented groups tend to underestimate their abilities. EA Sweden does not want the application process to dissuade potential candidates. We strongly encourage interested candidates to apply regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, physical ability, educational background, socioeconomic status, etc.

Logistics

  • Extent: 100% (full-time). Part-time may be considered for exceptional candidates.
  • Location: Ideally from our Stockholm office, with flexible remote days. We are open for exceptional candidates based elsewhere, with regular travel to Stockholm. Travels to international conferences a few times per year are required, usually 8-12 days per year.
  • Start date: Ideally as soon as possible, though we’re flexible and understand this may depend on the candidate’s current role or notice period.
  • Salary: 40,000-47,500 SEK, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
  • Benefits: The role comes with typical benefits for Swedish employment such as five weeks vacation and a collective agreement leveled pension scheme. A budget for personal development is available.
  • Work authorization: You must have the right to work in Sweden.
  • Employment: The role comes with a permanent employment (tillsvidareanställning) and a 6-month probation period. While the contract is permanent, its continuation depends on sustained fundraising. EA Sweden’s largest funder is the Centre for Effective Altruism and we are optimistic about ongoing support.
